I just received this call too saying they were from Service Canada for EI, due to the mixed information regarding this number I called EI directly to confirm that this was an representative and it was. They had the name and time of call logged into my entry so I called the number back. It is a legitimate number but if your still concerned call EI your self to verify. I hope this helps clarify that this is not a scam number it is just a remote number for people teleworking. When you call it the number it is an automated machine that asks you for your 10 digit number and this is so they can reroute the call to the appropriate agent.

I work for Service Canada and this is the toll free phone number we give to out-of-town customers to reach us. the 10 digits extension phone number is our direct phone line. After 2 phone calls, if we can't reach the client, we deal with the matter with the information on file and whatever information we received from the employer, and it might not be to your advantage. You will nevertheless receive a letter if you are disqualified from EI that will also explain the process to appeal of the decision.

ITS NOT A SCAM. 855-249-2290 is a legitimate number. Followed by the agents 10 digit phone number allowing people from anywhere in Canada to call without incurring long distance charges. Its the processing officers calling about missing information or needing more details on a difficult claim. They do not ask for your FULL social insurance number. Just the first two numbers of your access code. Whenever in doubt call the 1-800-206-7218 and ask. Normally the file is documented. Agents that supposedly state its not a real number may be NEW and actually not know that processing has a different phone number. As they are in a different department. I'm having the same issue. A call from a long distance number came up as "Julia" on my phone but her name was Anna. Said they had questions regarding my ei claim and wanted my sin number and two digits of my access code. I called actual service canada afterwards to see if it was legitimate and they said no one had contacted. So then I get this ei questionnaire in the mail a week later, call service canada again, wait another 3 hours on hold, to be told yes the call was legitimate and so is the letter and they had questions for me. So I don't know what to believe.

They just called me up with a no caller ID. A lady called Donna is asking me my first 2 digit access code. I asked her what’s the call is all about, she doesn’t wanna answer, instead ask me my few information to verify my identity. I hung up and she called again & left the number to call back 8552492290 with 9 digit extension. It’s a scam. First, the number is a “No Caller ID”. Usually, Service Canada don’t call. If they call, which is unusual, it should be a legitimate name or number recognized by your landline or cellphone, and not a “No called ID”.

This phone Number 1 855 249 2290 is completely FRAUD. Service Canada does not have 10 digit extension. The official e number of Service Canada is 1 800-206-7218.

I got called from private number, saying she is from service Canada. she gave me this number with 10 digit Extension to call back, so i discussed with my bf and find out that number. I check to my service Canada website and typed "EI – Workers and residents outside of Canada" yes that number exist, look like its special officer who handle hard case on EI. I will call them back next week. as my EI claim still on process after over a month. Would it be scam within my Canada service officer? cheers
